Every Kyoto lamp receives the same attention to design, manufacturing, assembly and testing. The difference in price among finishes reflects the cost, availability and manufacturing characteristics of the Wood PLA material used to create each lamp.
Prairie Pine
Prairie Pine is the most readily available of our Wood PLA finishes and the easiest to manufacture consistently. Its light, natural appearance also comes closest to the traditional shoji-inspired aesthetic that influenced the original Kyoto design.
Because its material and production costs are lower, we pass those savings on to the customer.
Our Standard Finishes
Natural Maple, Mission Walnut, Heritage Cherry and Classic Rosewood use more costly specialty materials. These finishes produce deeper colors and richer surface character than Prairie Pine, while requiring additional care during manufacturing.
They form the center of the Kyoto Collection and are priced consistently with one another.
Rich Ebony
Rich Ebony is our premium finish. Its Wood PLA material is considerably more expensive, less readily available and more demanding to manufacture successfully than our other finishes.
We maintain a working inventory of Rich Ebony lamps and material whenever possible, but unusually large orders may require additional production time. If an order will take longer than our normal processing period, we will communicate that before fulfillment.
The result is a dramatic, sophisticated finish with a depth and presence unlike anything else in the collection.
A Note About Our Materials
Our finish names describe the color and visual character of each Wood PLA material. Kyoto lamps are not made from solid pine, maple, walnut, cherry, rosewood or ebony lumber.
